Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct applies to students of the Delavan Lake Sailing School. It applies when participating in any DLSS hosted program (including Classes and Socials) and while at regatta’s sailing as a member of the DLSS team.   

 

This Code of Conduct starts to apply when the student arrives at the program/event and ends when the student leaves the program/event. This Code of Conduct applies to behavior both on and off the water.  

  • I will use my best efforts to learn and follow the Racing Rules of Sailing.  

  • I will be honest, fair, courteous, and a good sport, whether I am winning or losing.  

  • I will treat classmates, competitors, coaches, regatta officials, parents, hosts and all others with respect, even if I believe that person is wrong.  

  • I will comply with the reasonable requests of any DLSS Coach/Instructor, DLSS Board Member, regatta official and/or parent chaperone associated with the program/event.  

  • I will not use another's property without permission, steal or damage another's property.  

  • I will not hit, abuse, bully, make fun of or call anyone names.  

  • I will not swear or curse.  

  • I will not abuse my equipment in anger.  

  • I will follow all safety procedures and instructions given by a DLSS Coach/Instructor, DLSS Board Member, regatta official, regatta hosts and other responsible adults. I will promptly notify a race official, coach or responsible adult if another person is in danger.  

  • I will not engage in any conduct that endangers the health or safety of another student.   

 Discipline Actions:  

  • On the 1st incident of the day:  

    • Request that the student apologizes (if applicable) and acknowledges that they understand their behavior violates the DLSS Code of Conduct.   

  • On the 2nd incident of the day:  

    • Request that the student take a break from the current activities.  

  • On the 3rd incident of the day:  

    • Request that the student take a break from the current activities while the parent/caregiver is called. There could be a request that the student is picked up as soon as possible. A Conduct Report will be made in writing which will identify the student(s) and the basic facts of the situation.   

  • On the 8th incident of the session:  

    • Request that the student take a break from the current activities while the parent/caregiver is called to ask that the student is picked up as soon as possible. A Conduct Report will be made in writing which will identify the student(s) and the basic facts of the situation.  The student will not be able to return to the DLSS for that session and a refund will not be given.  

  • In the case of intentional property damage or theft, the parent/caregiver will be notified immediately.    

 

The Conduct Report can be created by any one of the following persons: DLSS Coach/Instructor, DLSS Board Member or DLSS Director.
