Dear Members,

Welcome back for another great sailing school summer! The Delavan Lake Sailing School Board of Directors has put together a curriculum that will be extremely fun for the sailors as well as the entire family. So get ready, get set and let’s go have some unforgettable sailing fun this summer!

As the new summer begins, we would like to welcome our new board member, Chris Goes. Chris’ sailing experience and enthusiasm are a valuable part of our board. Please welcome Chris as you greet him at the club and around the sailing school.

Over the winter, many exceptional sailors approached the sailing school for coaching positions for this summer. Each person interviewed and a final selection was reached. The DLSS Board of Directors are very excited to announce that the coaching team for the 2011 sailing school season are Zach Maher, Mark Ehlers, Alyse Compall, and Ellen Poole. Our assistant coaches are Rachel Beers and Sarah Gross. Our coaches were excited to return for another summer with the addition of Ellen Poole. Ellen brings a wide array of sailing experience from Opti, X-Boat, MC, 420 and Laser. Please come down to the sailing school and meet the coaches for the summer of 2011! Sailing school starts June 13, 2011 and continues through August 5, 2011. Please visit our website for important dates covering classes, sailing clinics, regattas, and junior socials. There is an endless list of fun activities for both the sailor and their family. In addition, please mark your calendar for the Annual Sailing School Auction on Saturday June 25, 2011 and our Golf Outing. Our sailing clinics will include world recognized Sally Barkow, our very own club members and clinics for parents too. The summer will be full of fantastic and fun sailing experiences and a fun Junior Social program cumulating the year with another terrific trip to Noah’s Ark in the Wisconsin Dells!

With the donations received to date, we have been able to expand upon both our Kinder- Pram program and our Learn-To-Sail program. This year we will continue to offer the Kinder Pram program for our very young sailors. This class is geared for sailors between the ages of 4 to 6 years of age. Lessons will be held on Fridays from 4:30pm to 6:00 pm right before Friday Night Fish Fry! What could be better than sailing with your little one and then enjoying Fish Fry with your yacht club friends?

Our expansion of the sailing program will focus on adult sailing classes in the Flying Scot and utilizing the 420 sailboats for the club sailors who want to continue having more fun. Our efforts at the sailing school are successful because of your generous donations and participation in the program. Because of you, we are growing into one of the best sailing schools in the USA. The Board of Directors would like to thank you for contributing to our many sailing school programs and for continuing to provide for the growth of sailing in the DLYC.

We need your help if we are to continue developing sailors for the future of the Delavan Lake Yacht Club.
