Alyse Compall, Instructor
I am a recent college graduate from Northern Illinois University with a BA in History and a Dance minor. Currently I teach dance classes at the dance studio I took lessons at. I also work as a substitute teacher at a number of different schools. Since I was a child I have loved the water. I took my first sailing lessons at the DLSS at age nine. I started in an opti and continued in an x-boat until I phased out at sixteen. Currently, I sail a c-boat under the number D-21. From sailing in c-boat regattas the past season I have learned countless lessons, ones I hope to bring to my second year coaching.

Mark Ehlers, Instructor
I am currently a sophomore at UW-Madison pursuing a degree in neurobiology. I have been involved in water sports my entire life. This will be my second year as a coach at the Delavan Lake Sailing School. I began sailing in high school when I crewed in E Scow races, here, at DLYC. I've also crewed on an A Scow for the past few seasons. I have never had such an interesting experience as I did in my first E Scow regatta, which was on Delavan two years ago, when we had an exceptionally long and windy race. In such a short time, I have met an exceptional group of interesting people, made great friends, and have enjoyed sharing the sport with the kids I coach.

Zach Maher, Instructor
I am currently attending UW Oshkosh and am majoring in environmental studies with an emphasis in environmental policy. I have been around sailing for as long as I can remember but I started competitively sailing as middle man on an E scow when I was 11 years old. I was fortunate enough to be able to get an X boat when I was 12 and sailed that until I was 16. That next season my father and I got an E scow which I am currently skipping and my father is my jib man. I crewed on the E's right up until I started sailing my own. I have also been crewing on an A scow for the past 4 seasons. I have crewed in various seats on the A scow but this past season I was the 5th seat (main man). Sailing has been the greatest thing that has ever come in to my life. It is a sport that will challenge you every day that you’re on the water. I have met many lifelong friends because of sailing and wish that everyone could enjoy this wonderful sport that has brought me so many good times.

Rachel Beers, Assistant Coach
I have just recently graduated high school and I'm attending Edgewood College with plans to study Biology. A main priority all my life has been sailing. I grew up on the lake and have been blessed with a family of sailors and a family at the DLYC. My sailing career started when I was 5 years old, sailing opti's. I competed for a few years until I got interested in X-Boats. I crewed for four years, skipped for three, and have helped out with the sailing school a number of times. For the second year I will be sailing on the MC along with crewing and skipping the E with my father. Sailing has taught me to keep pushing until the end, no matter what the circumstances. I'm looking forward to assisting the coaches for a second summer, and having fun with the next generation of sailors at the Delavan Lake Sailing School!

I am currently a student at Resurrection High School in Chicago, IL. My dad's family has had a summer home in Delavan, Wisconsin, since before I was born so when I turned 9 I started sailing optis at DLYC over the summer. I didn't sail optis for long because I became interested in X-boats. When I was 14, I served as a crew and experienced my first regattas. At 15, I decided that it was time to skip and did so until I aged out at 16. Sailing is by far the best sport I have ever competed in because it has taught me many valuable lessons and introduced me to a great group of people. In a way, I realize that if you try your hardest during the race, you still win in the end. This summer, I am happy to say that I will be racing an MC for Delavan!
