Alyse Compall, Instructor
I am a recent college graduate from Northern Illinois University with a BA in History and a Dance minor. Currently I teach dance classes at the dance studio I took lessons at. I also work as a substitute teacher at a number of different schools. Since I was a child I have loved the water. I took my first sailing lessons at the DLSS at age nine. I started in an opti and continued in an x-boat until I phased out at sixteen. Currently, I sail a c-boat under the number D-21. From sailing in c-boat regattas the past season I have learned countless lessons, ones I hope to bring to my second year coaching.

Mark Ehlers, Instructor
I am currently a sophomore at UW-Madison pursuing a degree in neurobiology. I have been involved in water sports my entire life. This will be my second year as a coach at the Delavan Lake Sailing School. I began sailing in high school when I crewed in E Scow races, here, at DLYC. I've also crewed on an A Scow for the past few seasons. I have never had such an interesting experience as I did in my first E Scow regatta, which was on Delavan two years ago, when we had an exceptionally long and windy race. In such a short time, I have met an exceptional group of interesting people, made great friends, and have enjoyed sharing the sport with the kids I coach.

Zach Maher, Instructor
I am currently attending UW Oshkosh and am majoring in environmental studies with an emphasis in environmental policy. I have been around sailing for as long as I can remember but I started competitively sailing as middle man on an E scow when I was 11 years old. I was fortunate enough to be able to get an X boat when I was 12 and sailed that until I was 16. That next season my father and I got an E scow which I am currently skipping and my father is my jib man. I crewed on the E's right up until I started sailing my own. I have also been crewing on an A scow for the past 4 seasons. I have crewed in various seats on the A scow but this past season I was the 5th seat (main man). Sailing has been the greatest thing that has ever come in to my life. It is a sport that will challenge you every day that you’re on the water. I have met many lifelong friends because of sailing and wish that everyone could enjoy this wonderful sport that has brought me so many good times.

Katie Porter, Instructor
I have finished my senior year at University of Wisconsin La Crosse. I am getting a degree in Community Health Education. While at La Crosse, I lettered in cross country (three times) and track (three times). I have been sailing since I was 5 where I started in an Optimist at Lake Beulah Yacht Club. I have experience in the Opti, X-boat, Laser, 420 and C boat. I taught sailing for two years at Lake Beulah then 4 years at Pewaukee and last year at the Delavan Lake Sailing School. I am looking forward to a wonderful summer on Delavan.

Mack Scheurell, Instructor
I am currently enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee studying Business Marketing. I started sailing when I was 5 years old at the Delavan Lake Sailing School in an Opti. I met a lot of my friends that I have now through sailing and at the yacht club. For the next 7 years I competitively sailed Opti’s in as many regattas as I could go to. After that I started crewing on X-boats and still sailing Opti’s. I crewed until I was 13 years old on the X-boat and then decided to skip my own boat, which I skipped until I was 16 years old. I had many achievements and awards throughout my younger sailing career, the biggest being winning a race in the GLSS.

Rachel Beers, Assistant Coach
I am currently a student at Delavan -Darien High School and my priority all my life has been sailing. I grew up on the lake and have been blessed with a family of sailors and a family at the DLYC. My sailing career started when I was 5 years old, sailing opti's. I competed for a few years until I got interested in X-Boats. I crewed for four years, skipped for three, and have helped out with the sailing school a number of times. As of this year I will be sailing on the MC and crewing with my father on the E. Sailing has taught me to keep pushing until the end, no matter what the circumstances. I'm looking forward to assisting the coaches, and having fun with the next generation of sailors at the Delavan Lake Sailing School.

Sarah Gross, Assistant Coach
I am currently a student at Resurrection High School in Chicago, IL. My dad's family has had a summer home in Delavan, Wisconsin, since before I was born so when I turned 9 I started sailing optis at DLYC over the summer. I didn't sail optis for long because I became interested in X-boats. When I was 14, I served as a crew and experienced my first regattas. At 15, I decided that it was time to skip and did so until I aged out at 16. Sailing is by far the best sport I have ever competed in because it has taught me many valuable lessons and introduced me to a great group of people. In a way, I realize that if you try your hardest during the race, you still win in the end. This summer, I am happy to say that I will be racing an MC for Delavan!
